Demanding funding and protection for grassroots justice defenders.
Ten weeks from now, world leaders and grassroots justice defenders will mark the 10th anniversary of the Commission on Legal Empowerment for the Poor (CLEP 10) alongside the United Nations General Assembly. This is a landmark moment. It offers us a unique opportunity to spotlight the work of our community from the last decade and highlight the gaps around financing and protection for grassroots justice defenders that put this work at risk. In the 10-week lead up to this anniversary, we are calling on our community to take national action and sign the #JusticeForAll petition. Our goal is 100,000 signatures. We will present the petition to world leaders at an event in New York on September 25th.
Madeleine Albright represents the Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor in Nairobi, Kenya 2008.
The 10 Weeks of Action will kick off during Nelson Mandela’s Centenary Celebrations (July 18), with a call to continue Mandela’s commitment to Justice For All. The 10 weeks will culminate around the 10th Anniversary of the Commission on Legal Empowerment for the Poor (September 25).
Each week, we will spotlight how access to justice is critical to the advancement of different thematic issues, such as women’s rights, land rights, and peace and security.
We will have new blogs and articles about the theme of the week and social media packs with graphics and sample posts, calling on allies across sectors to sign the #JusticeForAll petition.

Tell world leaders to fund and protect justice defenders.
We, the world’s justice defenders and citizens, call on world leaders to keep their promise, made at the United Nations, to ensure all people have equal access to justice. Only by funding and protecting grassroots justice defenders can we make justice, not injustice, the norm. The moment is now. It is time to tip the scales towards #JusticeForAll.
The number of signatures will be shared with governments during the UN General Assembly in September 2018.
